This post comes to you by way of Madison, Illinois…but it could happen anywhere.
A recently filed lawsuit claims nurses at Rosewood Care Center (Edwardsville, Ill) - a nursing home licensed by Bravo Care - administered 4 milligrams of Coumadin to a resident, despite the fact that her physician had ordered her prescription to be held because of an elevated PT/INR lab result.

We have frequently discussed how financial relationships among physicians, other health care professionals, and health care academics, on one hand, and drug, biotechnology, medical device and other health care corporations may have adverse effects on patient care and medical teaching and research. Again, as I have said before, this business would be better represented with non profit companies. This is all about money and the potential loss of money, not healthcare. BD

As I wrote at Healthcare Renewal here, I recently posted a web petition “Transparency and Openness in Electronic Patient Records and Other Healthcare Information Technology Systems” at http://www.webpetitions.com/cgi-bin/print_petition.cgi?99504454 , calling for an end to Nondisclosure Clauses [of defects, problems, EHR-related adverse events, etc.] in HIT contracts. The petition reads:

This is a strange story, but from the story here the doctor had committed fraud with insurance billing, had his license revoked and disappeared while on vacation in Greece. Boy this is a sad fate having to live at the end of a glacier in a tent after having 2 planes, a nice mansion, yachts and more.
Crime doesnt pay or not in this case it appears.

My current favorite book about the global financial meltdown, aka great recession, The Sellout, by Charles Gasparino, featured vivid portraits of the bad leadership that lead to the collapse. For example:
