This is pretty neat as when errors are made they are allowed to play out with an unintentional consequences.  The students get a surprise as they do not know what imageailment they are going to get when they start.  You can see the control panels in the picture with a director that makes the adjustments in vital signs, etc. as the training moves forward.

Community Hospital of Long Beach Becomes a Part of Memorial Care

We just posted an update on the ongoing cozy relationship with medical device companies, in particular, those that make prosthetic hip and knee joints, and some orthopedic surgeons.  Some surgeons, including many prominent academic leaders and practitioners, have been paid huge amounts, and have often failed to make more than the most minimal disclosure to their patients, or to the audiences of their talks or the readers of their ostensibly scholarly articles.  Deferred prosecution agreements with device companies shed light on these payments, but did not curtail them.  Yet the surgeons and the companies who paid them defended the payments as legitimate consulting agreements, and royalties for worthy innovations.

CareFusion, Cisco and Medtronic to Collaborate With West Wireless Health Institute on Technology – Additional Grants Awarded From Philanthropists Gary and Mary West

If you have not heard of the West Wireless Health Institute, I have posted about some of their activity in the past.  Also in the news this week about the institute, imagephilanthropists Gary and Mary West will give $25 million to the West Wireless Health Institute, and this accounts for the 3rd donation.  The West Wireless Health Institute has been give a total so far $90 million from the Wests and is only about a year old.  Qualcomm, Scripps and General Electric are already in house as collaborators.
