The Creation of a “Do Not Pay List” Announced by Government – Will Help Keep those MDs in the Grave from Cashing In

Filed Under (The Medical) by Admin on 18-06-2010

The Do Not Pay list will include more than just healthcare, but the huge area here is Social Security.  Fraud is a big case on everyones list and needs both technical and non imagetechnical support to enforce.  A while back I wrote about the crooks being better billers, why, they dont see patients and have one focus only fraud.  The link below has a couple of videos and additional information that support this and how some of these folks get by with this stuff.

Don’t Wait Until You Get Sick To Start Your Health Goals

Filed Under (My Health) by Admin on 18-06-2010

There are so many things that you can do to get healthy today. Don’t wait until you get sick to make a health plan. Sometimes we don’t have to get sick to see what will happen to us if we do not start making healthy life changes in our life now. It is even harder when you get sick, because you must make those health changes immediately, the chances of you recovering and feeling good will be hard. Don’t keep making excuses not to get healthy. You shouldn’t wait until you have a major health ailment to start getting healthy today. The more  you put it off the closer you will become to getting health ailments that no one wants.

Senate Votes Against Postponing the 21% Medicare Pay Cut for Doctors – The Non Participants in Healthcare

Filed Under (The Medical) by Admin on 18-06-2010

This is a big blow to everyone and in the words of some BP executives are we the small or little people out here?  This situation has gone on for years and an area that needs precedence.  Starting tomorrow CMS will begin issuing payments with the cuts.  Now Im sure there may be some future talks here and perhaps some retro-active laws and/or rules come about, but this doesnt say much for those who represent doctors and the unemployed as those extended benefits are in the same bill and they come to a close without legislative action.  image

Deferred Prosecution Agreements End, So Let the Payments Grow

Filed Under (Health Care) by Admin on 18-06-2010

Starting in 2007, we posted (here, here, here, here and here) about the payments, often huge, that five manufacturers of prosthetic joints (Biomet, DePuy Orthopaedics (a unit of Johnson & Johnson), Stryker Orthopedics,a unit of Stryker Inc, Zimmer Holdings, and Smith & Nephew) revealed they made to orthopedic surgeons and various academic and other organizations. These revelations were the results of deferred prosecution agreements made in 2007 between four of the companies and the US Department of Justice after the latter charged Biomet, DePuy, Zimmer, and Smith and Nephew with giving surgeons kickbacks, disguised as consulting fees, to promote their products.  Stryker entered into a voluntary compliance agreement (see post here).

Memorial Care Health Systems Opening 3 “HealthExpress” Walk In Clinics Inside Albertsons/Sav-On Stores – Orange County

Filed Under (The Medical) by Admin on 17-06-2010

If Memorial Care sounds familiar, they have been featured a couple times here at the Medical Quack with interviews and a walk through of their new Miller Childrensimage Hospital a short while back.  The locations for  HealthExpress will be electronically tied to the hospital systems and the chain also works with Talbert Medical Clinics with the EPIC medical records system connecting the practice ambulatory system.   The hospital chain has had a couple self standing urgent care centers for a number of years, one of which I have gone to numerous times and is a block from where I live.   You can use the link below where I spoke with Dr. Leo from Long Beach Memorial on how their transition to electronic medical records was planned and implemented.

INSEL and NEMEROFF - WHAT SANCTIONS?

Filed Under (Health Care) by Admin on 16-06-2010

INSEL and NEMEROFF WHAT SANCTIONS?

Thomas Insel, Director of NIMH, has another posting in his own defense on his official blog today. He has been widely criticized lately for the appearance of cronyism in his relationship with Charles Nemeroff. For the past three months, Insel has been trying to put some distance between himself and Nemeroff, but the public isnt buying it. I have called his statements disingenuous here and here. Dr. Insels statements today are equally disingenuous. Negative reactions are already appearing from those familiar with Nemeroffs history.

Walgreens Mobile Application Now Includes Text Messaging To Notify When Prescriptions are Ready and Mobile Refills – In English and Spanish

Filed Under (The Medical) by Admin on 15-06-2010

One more mobile service from Walgreens for your phone.  They also have an IPhone application and one for BlackBerry and Android phones.  If you want to be alerted on when your prescription is ready you can follow the instructions.  Also I noticed there are coupons available through the web and the mobile application.  Be careful of coupon services for marketing and privacy reasons.  I covered a lot of this in a post earlier this year and you need to be aware of who could possibly see some of your information as well as the potential of finding you on Facebook and other social avenues as much of the prescription data does not fall under the protection of HIPAA and coupons are used to build data bases of profiles and information to market you better.
